How to Properly Thermal Protect your Hair

If you heat style your hair in any way it is very important to protect it! Some hot tools can reach up to 450 degrees which means if you are not using a high quality thermal protector you are literally scorching your hair. We recommend using a product in wet hair (see our previous post Leave in Conditioner 101) with a thermal protector built in before blow drying as well as an additional spray on dry hair prior to flat ironing and curling. Using good products on your hair can help prevent damage before it starts!

7 Seconds Glossing Spray by Unite is a UV and thermal protector for all hair types that is great to use prior to curling or flat ironing on dry hair. We love it because it is lightweight and gives the hair great shine without weighing it down or making it sticky. An added bonus is that it smells amazing! Simply spray each section of hair lightly (3-5 inches away) prior to flat ironing or curling. This can also be used as an all over finishing mist for added shine! We carry Unite in the salon and are always happy to answer any questions:)

Some additional tips:

-Keep your tools moving-don't hold your flat iron or curling iron in one section of hair for too long.

-Don't use heat every day if you can avoid it-even giving your hair a break one day a week can go a long way.

-Quality matters- using professional quality tools will make a big difference in the health of your hair.

-Make sure hair is fully dry before using hot tools (flat irons and curling irons).

-Spray your thermal spray at least 3-5 inches away from hair.
